The Bergerie de Peymeyan has stood on solid rocks since 1680, when it was first mentioned. It was the beginning of the 11th year of the reign of Louis XIV; almost 100 years before the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte. Initially no more than a shelter (French: ‘cabanon’) for shepherds and their animals, the following generations built a magnificent Mas de Provence, a house built from the stones that were cleared away for wine-growing and thus reused.
In 1965, the famous fashion designer Jean Guy Vermont, bought the estate and added a park, a large swimming pool (8.5m x 17m) and a large, south-facing terrace. He bought additional land, presumably because he wanted the house to be the centre of attention, with the neighbouring properties having to be a respectable distance away. Peace and quiet instead of noise.
At the end of the 1970s, the property was acquired by the British Lord Ashburn, who, curiously, never set foot in the Bergerie de Peymeyan. His factotum, Mr White, took care of the Mas for the next 10 years.
In 1994, the present owner purchased the property and modernised it without changing the substance and charm of the Mas de Peymeyan. Since then, many guests, including a number of celebrities (such as Oscar-winner Helen Mirren and Travor Hackford, the band BUSH, as well as leading managers from politics and industry), have spent relaxing days and hours at Mas Bergerie de Peymeyan.
There are always the unexpected moments that make your own holiday unforgettable in your memory, and it remains a place of longing to which you are so happy to return. Without doubt, French Provence has a special place when it comes to this kind of longing. You close your eyes, think ‘Provence’ and the image of a Bergerie de Peyemyan appears before you. Built almost 400 years ago, build out of local rocks, protected by towering cypresses, and far enough away from the next-door neighbour in every direction to be undisturbed by the noise of civilisation. Every soul can dangle here under the old mulberry trees.
But modern comforts are not lacking either: high beamed ceilings, sun-drenched rooms, exclusive bathrooms, Wi-Fi, several terraces, an oversized pool and much more. The Bergerie de Peymeyan is the ideal starting point for trips to the highlights of the Cote d'Azur, e.g. St. Tropez, Cannes, Monaco, Gorges de Verdon, Aix en Provence, Antibes, etc., and serves as a comfortable retreat. From here you can start your explorations in the morning, for example to the Fragonard and Molinard perfumers in Grasse, to the Mediterranean beaches or the many sportive offers in the mountains. In the late afternoon, you can take a break with a glas of Rosé or a cocktail on the terrace or at the pool, before the evening whisks you away to one of the many restaurants. The Bergerie is the premium retreat for lasting memories.
